Where art thou Joe?

Joe Alexander was taken 8th overall by the Bucks in the 2008 NBA draft, and not much has happened for him since then. His rookie year had him in 59 games, averaging 12 minutes and 4.7 points per game. Certainly a disappointment considering how high a pick he was, but realistic coming from someone who watched his three years in college. His sophomore season was actually worse, fighting a bad hammy, he was sent by Milwaukee to the D-League Fort Wayne Fire Ants. Joe played a productive 6 games, averaging 10.5 points, with a high of 23 vs the Rio Grand Valley Vipers. Milwaukee then traded Joe Alexander and Hakim Warrick to Chicago for John Salmons and 2 second round picks, then he went back to riding the pine scoring all of 4 points in 8 appearances.

This summer is the time for Alexander to step up and show he belongs in the league. Joe signed a 3 year rookie deal, with a player option for the third. He decided to opt out of the third year of his deal, (to the tune of 2.5 mil or so), which to me sounds like lunacy, but if there is a lockout next year I suppose that is the worst time to be a free agent. It means Joe is a restricted free agent this summer, and he has a spot on the Bulls Vegas Summer League team, so it’s audition time. His freakish athleticism will have him on someones bench, but its time to man up and gain some floor time.

I will be watching his games, and posting his results as I’ve been doing with Devin Ebanks. I’m looking forward to seeing Alexander on the floor again, can’t say he has graced national TV all that much since leaving the Mounties. It’s hard to say he made a mistake coming out after his junior year, I mean the guy banked 5 mil for doing it, but it is pretty clear he needed more time. He has more athletic ability in his pinky than I have in my entire body, and I hope he can put everything together and turn some of that potential into results.
