Lakers sign two vets, Ebanks and Caracter next

May 18, 2010 - Orlando, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES - epa02163462 Orlando Magic's Matt Barnes makes a basket against the Boston Celtics during the first period of game two of the NBA Eastern Conference finals at the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida, USA, 18 May 2010. The Celtics hold a one game to none lead in the best of seven series.

As I predicted, the Lakers signed two veteran players to fill out the bench Matt Barnes and Theo Ratliff. Theo Ratliff is an aging shot blocker and averaged 16 min per game last year. Not much to that one, he is a good locker room guy and can fill some space if Bynum or Gasol are out. Barnes is a 6-7 Small Forward, played all of last season with the Orlando Magic, averaging 26 minutes, 8 points and 5 boards. At first he had announced he was signing with the Toronto Raptors, then some kind of salary cap mumbo jumbo ended up preventing that deal.  Barnes then signed with LA due to more cap gobeldegook that I have sent to a team of researchers to study.  The results are expected back in 6-8 weeks.

The good news is that leaves two spots left on the roster that are all but signed sealed and delivered to Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter. The bad news, while Barns is certainly an upgrade to the Lakers roster, I don’t like the signing. What I really care about is Devin Ebanks, and he just got a tougher battle for minutes. The Lakers did have him playing some 2 in the Vegas Summer League, but that is where Kobe roams, so there is not much room there either. Overall I’ll take it, its a long season, we will see Devin on the floor at some point.

If you care for more than Ebanks and think of the Lakers as a whole, the long version is here, that guy really loves him some Lakers.

  2. […] This happened while I was away on a little vacation, so I’m a couple of days late. It sucks because Devin Ebanks posts account for about 50% of my views, with the Da’Sean Butler posts being the other 50. I’ll take it, I’m happy Devin now has some ink to go along with his relationship with the Lakers. If LA had not signed them, I would have looked pretty stupid looking back on some old posts. […]
