Rocking the Peace Tree Ceremony today and took a few pictures of this here eagle. Eagles are awesome, nuff said.

The top of Percival-Allen Hall, the most confused building on campus

October 18, 2010

Is it Allen Hall? Percival Hall? Did Percival and Allen ever get married? If so wouldn’t it be Allen-Percival? Eh who cares, the Allen Hall portion is 9 floors, and I snapped some roof shots. Always fun to see the stream of death coming from Ft. Martin so clearly, looks like a freaking volcano.  Other than that enjoy the fall colors!

I often find myself on the roof of WVU buildings doing some sort of work, and now that I have a fancy phone I can take some pics. Stay tuned, pics from the top of Engineering coming in October after the Pumpkin Drop.

WVU to play BYU at FedEx Field in 2016, how the hell are we going to fill 91k seats?

Just in from Head Coach Bill Stewart’s twitter feed, West Virginia will play BYU at Fed Ex Field in DC in 2016. Its a pretty ballsy move for both universities, playing a neutral game far away from home in a stadium that could fit the population of Monongalia County and still have empty seats.

I like the move, its better than putting another FCS or CUSA team on the docket, I’m just curious how in the world they are going to sell out that stadium. There are tons of Mormons everywhere, and WVU has a nice alumni base in the DC area, but I just don’t see filling 91k seats for the match up. We have 6 years to sell those tix, so lets get at it!

To be a Mountaineer is to know Pain, The Top 4 Soulcrushing WVU defeats of my life

September 10, 2010

MINNEAPOLIS - MARCH 20: The mascot for the West Virginia Moutaineers stands on the court against the Dayton Flyers during the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament at the Hubert H. That was a close one folks, West Virginia gave Marshall every chance to take that game. Thankfully they were kind enough to fumble deep in their own territory, starting an 18 point roll. It looked really bad there for a while, in order to curb my anger I thought upon my lifetime as a Mountaineer fan. I took a sick kind of solace in knowing that I have lived through at least 4 games that were more heartbreaking than losing to Marshall would have been. And here we go…

1989 Notre Dame
I was a youngin, lucky enough to have a Dad that wasn’t going to miss West Virginia’s first shot at a National Title. We flew out to Arizona, saw the Grand Canyon, had a good old time. Then we went to the game. Our seats were one row from the top of Sun Devil Stadium, which is freaking enormous. Being spoiled with a lower level seat at Mountaineer Field I thought I was watching the game from the surface of the moon. A few plays in Major Harris got hurt, and since 99.997% of the game plan revolved around the Maj, the game was pretty much over from that point on. I cried, the loss of a national championship is a lot to put on the head of a 9 year old. Can’t say if I have fully recovered.

Hey Pitt, could you please live up to the hype? My back hurts from carrying this confrence

September 3, 2010

CHARLOTTE, NC - DECEMBER 26: Head coach Dave Wannstedt of the Pittsburgh Panthers smiles before the start of their game against the North Carolina Tar Heels on December 26, 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)

As a Mountaineer fan I will always hate Pitt. In fact, I hate them so much I want them to go 11-1 each and every season. Despite having piles of preseason hype and press the last 3 pre seasons, the Panthers have failed to get out of non conference play unblemished. In 2008 it was an opening day loss to Bowling Greene of the MAC. In 2009 it looked like Pitt had everything set to enter Big East play undefeated, but gave away a 38-31 decision to NC State of the ACC. Last night Pitt continued their early season problems dropping a 27-24 overtime decision to Utah of the Mountain West.

Nike unveils new WVU Pro Combat uniform, and its pretty snazzy

September 1, 2010

Nike unveiled the new West Virginia Nike Pro Combat jersey this morning, and I like it. The jersey is pretty sharp, the coal dust black on the numbers and shoulders is a very nice touch. I think my favorite part of the new uni is the helmet. The standard WVU helmet is blue with a bunch of sparkles. I hate the sparkles. The sheer black with a gold stripe which signifies a coal miners head lamp is marvelous. I look forward to seeing the uniforms in action during this years back yard brawl in Pittsburgh, which I plan on attending.

I may get ill saying it, but big props to Nike, this jersey is a winner. The question is where are they for sale so i can do what I always do with jerseys, consider buying one for months/years and never pull the trigger.

Pics at UniWatch, that dude doesn’t seem to like them, but everyone can agree its better than what Pitt plans to wear
