The Superbowl may have been the last NFL game we see in a while

The 2010-11 football season is over, wounds are still too fresh from the Super Bowl so I won’t get into that. What really has me concerned this off-season is that the NFL is on the edge of a lockout. Make no mistake, the owners are digging in, and if there is one thing millionaires and billionaires do well its worry about money.   I worry about money too, but when I feel the need to cutback, only the small convinence store down the road suffers, it does not potentially effect our national pastime. Lets take a look at the situation, and try and make some sense from the madness.

The Top Fantasy Quarterbacks for 2010 and where to draft them, updated 8/18

August 18, 2010

February 7, 2010 - Miami, FL. - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees hoists the Vince Lombardi trophy after the New Orleans Saints came back from a 10-6 halftime deficit to beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. Brees was named the game's MVP.

There are plenty of quarterbacks in the sea, but there is only one guy ready to lead you to fantasy glory in 2010. Quarterback has the most flux from week to week, a 300 yard 2 TD performance one week can easily turn into 100 yards and 3 picks the next. Unlike running back, where the demand far outstrips the supply, it is reasonable to get two solid starting quarterbacks in the draft. So do you go for the big gun or value? In a standard 12 team league, most teams will take two each, leaving around 8 starters on the waiver wire. Here is my breakdown of the top QBs and where I suspect they will be drafted in the MFL this season.

Updated from 7/22/2010

Note: The Morgantown Football League scoring is one point per 50 yards, and 6 points for a touchdown pass. So if your league gives 4 for a passing TD, you should bump all of these guys down a round or two. A touchdown is always 6 points, and that’s the way we like it.

An alleged football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals was played last night.  Like all preseason openers before it, I was excited football was being played, but disappointed it was all an illusion.  Here are the 5 thoughts (and that is pushing it) on the game.

Fantasy implications if Brett Favre really retires

August 3, 2010

NEW ORLEANS - JANUARY 24: A fan in the stands holds up a Green Bay Packers #4 jersey as Brett Favre #4 of the Minnesota Vikings walks off the field after the Vikings lost to the New Orleans Saints 31-28 in overtime during the NFC Championship Game at the Louisiana Superdome on January 24, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Fox Sports Jay Glazer and the Minneapolis Tribue (whose web site is being destroyed atm) have both reported that Favre has told teammates and the Vikings organization that he will not return for season number 20. I’ll believe it when I see it, but there are several fantasy football angles to follow.

Injury fairy mistakes Moreno for Buckhalter, corrects minutes later

August 1, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - DECEMBER 27: Knowshon Moreno #27 of the Denver Broncos runs the ball past Will Witherspoon #50 of the Philadelphia Eagles for a touchdown on December 27, 2009 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Denver Broncos running back Correll Buckhalter is so injury prone he is becoming a danger to everyone around him. During day one of training camp, projected starting running back Knowshon Moreno injured his leg. The injury lords then realized that the intended target, Correll Buckhalter, was still standing and 10 minutes later took care of him as well.

Word on the street is Moreno may have severely pulled his hammy, while Buckhalter pulled his upper back. Will wait for an official statement to determine fantasy status, but that’s gotta kill Knowshawn as a RB2.

Pat White stirs up some press at Miami Dolphins camp

July 31, 2010

ATLANTA - SEPTEMBER 13: Backup quarterback Pat White #6 of the Miami Dolphins against the Atlanta Falcons at Georgia Dome on September 13, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

You know its slow this time of year, and football writers are chomping at the bit, they finally have something to write about, practice. Pat White missed a day of practice and the football press, starving from the off season jumped all over it. The reason given for the absence was “personal issues”, which really gets the rumor mill going. Everything from missing the season to being traded has been floated out there. It seems its much to do about nothing, Pat returned to practice today.

Following these developments for the last two days, I see a little smoke but no fire quite yet. The Dolphins did bring in another quarterback Tommy Grady, but I see it as a business decision. They thought an arm would be gone and wanted another. The possibility of a trade or even a release is real as the QB spot is becoming a bit crowded at 5 deep. It may be time and accept any role to get on the field and stay on the team. As for the last two days I just think something went down and he had to go get it taken care of, it happens to us all, we just don’t have an army of sports writers speculating every time we take a sick day.
